Keyboard to die for [i don't mean 'the']

February 28, 2011

ever wish you could do away with your boring as fuck keyboard, and plug in a new one that is so fucking cool it could put your whole PC to shame. This is the Optimus Tactus.

Art. Lebedev Studio have made it.

It looks like a keyboard that you choose any Pantone that you want but then you find the next picture mind fucks you as does the one after that.

As the keyboard does not have any physical keys, areas can be assigned to do almost what ever you want. Like play a video.

that is all.

these pictures say it all.

Cardboard Memories

February 28, 2011

Spattered around the internet are these ‘green’ USB sticks that come in various memory sizes. They are called ‘Flashkus‘, from Art. Lebedev Studio

Very cool, and so very functional should you have to give you presentation out on USB, along with a phone number, or pop it in your notebook to share some important ideas during a chance meeting with a client.

either way, if this is the clean minimal, non plastic dildo shaped media storage solutions for the future I am definitely in!

too clean huh?, imagine, ‘hey man got some awesome tracks from RCRD LBL the other day, you want in?’ and with that you tear one off dump the Mp3s on the stick write the artists name which in this case would be ‘cool as fuck’ and pass it on to your friend.

Art. Lebedev Studio believe this is the future of portable media.

iPod Watch/Lunatik

February 26, 2011

It finally arrived in the post.

after waiting since December 2010 it finally came in the post on Thursday of last week. I have been waiting for this for quite some time.

If you haven’t already heard about it, a little before christmas last year the guys from MNML started a Kickstarter.com project to raise $15000 to put into production a cool watch band from the prototypes they had made for the iPod Nano 6th Generation.

They received pledges and backing to the tunes of $941,718. Pretty good huh?

These guys did not go the cheap path either. With two types of band up for grabs I chose the Lunatik. Aircraft Aluminium and tidy black rubber band, for wearing with a swagger of course.

I was planning on saving slowly for a Nano, but much to my own, and others disgust I went and purchased one today.

Whilst they were both a little costly. The total watch price was far less than that of an expensive fossil or medium priced dress watch, and far more functional. See I have a bit of a fetish for wrist watches which borders on addiction, and I have not been able to feed it for quite some time.

This was the perfect opportunity.

Any way on with the post.

T-’.ll v  /||o be honest I thought it may turn up wrapped in sticky tape and a note that said ‘here is your watch thing’  But the packaging was excellent and had that ‘new tech’ smell. All tools were included, and it was on par with the Apple packaging standard that they always live up to with iPod and iPhone products. Ditto for the nano packaging

As always the support that I provided by buying myself an awesomely cool watch is recognised, by Scott Wilson from MNML.

and the packaging although it is simple is very cool, before you open the box it gives you a sneak peak.

With the Nano out of the box and a quick undo of the screws on the watch band itself, I was ready to install, which was BASIC.

With everything in place, I have now got a fully functional wrist-based touch screen iPod, photo album, and watch which is very solid, light and pretty to look at!

iPod main screen^.

In the user settings of the iPod you can just set it to wake to clock. that way each time you want to check the time you just press the ‘wake’ button on the side. then if you want to access the other features of the iPod you can just tap the screen.

I am just a real sucker for gadgets, and besides the iPhone (any model esp 4) and the neoprene Niqab as mentioned in previous post (not that I own one) this is a really cool gadget, and for much less than the cost of a pretty cool watch you have 8gig of very functional storage on your wrist as well as an iPod.

Thus continues my turn to Apple products. Not sure what you guys think but I like this, and it is a little cooler than the $30 rubber ones for sale on eBay.

Compared to a normal watch like my excellent ‘Fossil’ watch which apparently kanye West is too cool to wear now (yes he is a very interesting person we are all thinking the same swear word)

And that is that.

I think its pretty cool.

In a short time I will do another post on MNML themselves, nearly all of their design is eye and brain candy.

1st iPhone, 2nd neoprene Niqab/Burqa.

February 20, 2011

After watchnig all the Beautiful smiling  Muslim/Islamic ladies and the fun they were having today at the Aquatic centre in Homebush, I have come to the realisation that yeah the iPhone changed everything for a lot of people, but the neoprene niqab/burqa change everything for a lot of people too.

Who ever thought to make these. You are a genius.

2nd greatest invention ever only to the iPhone, is the neoprene niqab/burqa. There I have said it. Sliced bread can get f’d. I can pull bread apart if iwant smaller pieces of bread. Pretty accurately too!

Enjoy cooling off this summer!

Looks pretty tight.

only let down, no access to charge whilst in case. Everything else is open though. Very cool. from ebay

Rouse Hill Town Centre. A breath of design.

February 20, 2011

The team and I took a trip to Rouse Hill Town Centre the other day. This was to do some recon because friends of ours had been telling us how nice it was and that they did shopping there. We have been looking for real estate options near the area and so had decided to take a drive and have a coffee, and check it out for ourselves.

on arrival it was the same as always, turn right and then quick left into underground ‘Westfield’ style car park. But then….we rode the elevator up to the ground floor.

Unveiled was a designer delight shopping centre, complete with green attributes, hidden store rooms, and complete attention to detail. The designers at GPT Group have done every local resident proud. This shopping centre felt fresh, it felt cozy, as well as feeling air-y and open.

From the polished concrete planter boxes come sitting and waiting benches, to the pipette style naturally lit art deco/future chairs (see below) every thing came together. The centre gave the impression that you were walking around out doors and indoors at the same time all whilst existing in the current day future.

The food court itself is beautiful (and beautifully fattening). It is split down the middle by a giant partition that is able to close one side from the other, not sure why but it looks very effective. The partition itself is made a a open wire pattern that is nature motifs but from afar looks like a 1920s damask, very cool. The lighting in the food court give way to the feeling that you are in the under

it is a little oriental but more gives the illusion that even the food court is eco-friendly.

Like most other ‘eco friendly’ buildings being constructed at the moment, recycled water plays a part in showing off the ‘green build’. This fountain is part of  a cycle that apparently recycles 70%  of the water that is used by the centre, and looks really good. All of the drain hole covers are themed to remind patrons that the water is effecting the habitat that surrounds the centre. It is a nice touch very similar idea to the Manhole covers in different towns in Japan.

This section of the retail centre is both open air and not. It really takes away from the ‘Westfield style mall’ feel that all these centres have whether they like it or not. You get to feel the outside temperature and the natural light is very nice alternative to fluorescent lighting.  the planter baskets and natural exposed timber will probably age very quickly but for now makes the building feel super modern.

Every section has its own theme. Good attention to detail makes the shopping experience feel personal and feel like you are shopping in the back streets of Melbourne, only problem is, that all the stores are the same chains as always. Neither good nor bad this aspect reminds you that you are in a shopping mall.

The whole place makes it very easy to sit outside and drink coffee in the town square, and feels a little like a suburban piazza.

Aside from the trolley, left away from the supermarket, the chair in this photo was what inspired this post. Cool seating like this should be every where in every shopping centre. For resting, and for kids climbing

I would recommend people go and shop here for sure. It really is a great alternative, and nice eye candy.

I found these posters. Very cool and yes you can even get them in iPhone wallpaper size.

Typography is just art disguised as smart words. Thus Helvetica was born wearing a mustache and glasses.

Just so simple. Yet so attractive.

Go there and be positive. Don’t forget to check out design-milk every day now too. They have optimized for iPhone. So you can stick them on your home screen.
