Ok I used to play quite frequently in a band classified as a ‘metal band’. A lot of my friends and friends of the band used to explain -”Oh I can’t stand that music, you can’t even understand what they are singing! do you sing like that?”, then some one else would chime in and retort, “you can hardly call it siniging, sounds like someone being killed!?!?”.
Most responses would be like this, or of this nature.
To the point……I was watching a brief bit of television the other night, and on channel 44, TVS was showing an amateurish metal show, show casing both local and international talent.
After watching for a while, seeing a few live clips from some abysmal Australia bands, one excellent band, Lynchmada, (greats friends of our old band), a band came on that would be the stereo type shit metal hair too long, I am sure they smell type of band.
Why not cut your hair. Is it because you are 39 and still playing to no one at the local dungeon, namely the lewisham, or bexley.
Don’t get me wrong our band played these venues too, but we would play any venue we could. We were trying to play every gig in the world, hard working and innovative, well we thought so anyway.
I couldn’t work out why people were more receptive to the energy that our band as a rock and rock act put out. Most of the bands were the same, passionate and hardworking, melodic, and yeah of course, someties angry frustrated and looking to channel that energy into their music.
I remember we had once played a show at the Metro Theatre in Sydney. I was in the toilet after the show and relieving myself at the urinal, when a bloke came and stood beside me and was also peeing.
Bloke: Where you guys from?
me: oh, hey we are from penrith!
Bloke: awww, fuck eh?, I thought you we from the shire!!
Me: Nah, did you like the show?
Bloke: Fuck yeah, you guys went off!!
(still weeing)
me: cool glad you liked, we have some merch, like CDs and stuff if you want to buy!
Bloke: yeah fuck oath, tell ya what though, didn’t expect a voice like that to come out of a head like yours!!
with that he walked off.
(oh we had both finished weeing shortly before this point)
let me describe.
Black beanine, black fatigues Un ironed, black hoodie (cannibal corpse of course with C$%^ somewhere on the top) and some skate shoes.
Now back to the track, watching the YVS metal program and seeing the ugly very underweight female presenter and her bikie style, under groomed long bearded, red headed co host, intermittently growling as he missed out just cause he had to go to centre link instead of the auditions for the new cannibal corpse lead singer .
I though Fuck. No wonder no one likes Metal. This is the face of it. I know it not always the cse but these are the die hards that are promoting it.

so why are people still looking like hobos in order to listen to Metal.
